Succesful SSD training held in Kumasi!

By the end of November 10 field technicans from Benin and Togo travelled to Kumasi, Ghana to join a sawah system development training. The training was provided by the Crops Research Institute with support from Prof. Wakatsuki from Kinki University. The training was supervised by Dr Dembele and Dr Abe from AfricaRice.

The trainees attended the last scientific day of the SSD workshop, also in Kumasi and continued with sessions on designing a sawah system, organizing farmer’s groups and making long-term contracts with land owners. Thereafter, the practical days started where skills like land levelling, bunding and puddling were exercised. The field technicians will start working on demonstration sites where SSD will be exlained to farmers. Thereafter, farmers will support farmers to develop their own sawah system.
