Third season confirms the positive imapct of Sawah technology

February 20, 2012

In January 2012 the third season of rice was harvested in the Bame research site where the impact of water management and sawah is evaluated. The average yield in fertilized sawah fields was around 4.3 ton/ha, while in traditional fields the yields amounted 3.7 ton/ha. Actuals yields in farmers fields are, however, expected to be lower than in the traditional/fertilized fields in the experimental sites. The figure below visualizes the average rice yields in the 48 experimental fields.

The Sawah system is more than the traditional perfoment whatever the production conditions (toposequence, Fertilisaion, season). But the yields of the rainy season are lower than those of the dry season.
