Dr. Arouna joins the SMART-IV team

As of 1st of March Dr Aminou Arouna has joined AfricaRice as Postdoctoral Fellow Agricultural Economics. Aminou Arouna (36) obtained his Masters degree in agricultural economics in 2002 from the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin) with distinction and was the best student of this year. In 2006 Aminou was awarded a DAAD scholarship and started a PhD at the University of Hohenheim in Germany. During this three year period he investigated the efficiency of agricultural water management in Benin. He designed a survey, appointed and trained enumerators and collected and analysed socio-economic data of 325 farm-households using advanced econometric methods. Within the SMART-IV project, Aminou will lead the socio-economic research activities, which include an assessment of effective knowledge transfer mechanisms for technologies and the impact of sawah system development on the livelihood of rice farmers.
